Promise of Spring

Something for Kids,,
30 Jun 2008

Have you ever looked at a sad face and wonder "why is that child so sad?" Sometimes in school you hear the children talk and they don't know your listening. This is a poem that speaks for those children who have fathers that are around and don't understand the power of their words to their kids. Please enjoy this poem,,,

Promises of Spring

It was this time of the year when you said, don't worry baby I'll be there.
I stood staring out the stained window, waiting.
How could you not come and keep to your word?
Like all the other times you continue to kill my dreams.

Mom tries to comfort the pain that runs deep.
She was a victim of the same poison you’re feeding me.
Here I am waiting on a Santa who apparently doesn't like children.
As each car passes I feel a little less human.

What did I do? I didn’t ask to be here.
You spoke the words so strong so clear that I fell for it again.
Each year I grow only to feel the same pain differently.
Why do you continue to steal my joy from me, my love is real?

The words "We'll go to the park" has the taste of a curse.
Yet I continue to hope and pray the Lord has pity on me.
On days like today I should be out and in creation.
But alas all I do is hate the Promises of Spring.

This poem is dedicated to all the kids that have been let down fathers who made a promise they didn’t keep. Someone understands. I really do.
Fathers all too often we forget that what we offer our children is etched deep in their soul so don’t make promises you can’t keep. It hurts and hurts deep.
