The Ball is Rolling,, Thank You Everyone
September 16, 2008
Hey Family, I know it's been a little under a month since the last newsletter was sent out. I figured I would try to send something out once a month. First I want to say "THANK YOU" from the bottom of my heart for making "A Man In Transition" a hot read here in NYC and a few other places. People have had nothing but good things to say about the book. All the credit is the Lord's but I wanted to say all of you that picked the book up I appreciate it. I have done two signings over the past few weeks. The Queen's Book Fair here in Jamaica, Queens and I did extremely well for it to be the first actual signing. C & B Distribution put on a great affair. I got the opportunity to read two of my pieces and the crowd enjoyed it. I don't place sales expectations on myself. I try to be as friendly as possible and allow the books to sell themselves. Well that is what they did. I met, shook hands, smiled and truly enjoyed discussing what went into creating my book. The sales were great. The next week it was on to my old home of Rochdale Village. I lived there from 1977-1989 and it was truly a blessing to return home and in the shadows of my old Junior high school have a table set up with my books on them. The other pleasure of the day was having my sons there to watch and see the love I received from so many that I knew and didn't know. It was truly a homecoming. You really get to see what you mean to people when you haven't seen some in 20 years and they act like it was yesterday when we last spoke. I was the proud father conducting business the righteous and professional way. It was a pleasure being able to provide the role model that young men need. To have my wife and sons out there watching was so sweet. The books sales were simply icing to an extremely tasty cake. We did sell quite a few books. Next it was on to 1st Baptist Church in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. A friend of my grandmother-in-law picked up 22 books and was selling them for me. They asked me to come to speak to the kids for their youth rally since they were quite impressed with the book. Well I didn't get a chance to speak because of a snafu but I did get to meet the pastor and when I walked through the door. His wife, with a big smile said that's the young man from the book I am reading. My heart soared. To be noticed from my book was a wonderful feeling. I was introduced to at least four other people who took the time out to thank me for writing the poetry. God was truly working. They are in the process of distributing "A Man In Transition" to members of their congregation. How about that? I am supposed to go back for a big day they are having. The Honorable Reverend Al Sharpton is scheduled to be the key note and they asked me would I consider speaking to the men that will be there... I can't wait. Sept 29th is the date. This Friday I'll be at the Art of Curves Fashion Soiree at Studio 450 in NYC. It's a big event and I was asked to set a table up there. I am more than honored to be there to offer my books to anyone who wants it. Can't wait. TheArtofCurves.com is the website if you want to learn more. My lovely wife is going to be one of the models. It’s a win win situation for me. My lovely wife strutting her stuff on the runway and me outside doing my thing at the table. Can't beat that. Well the final thing is I just heard the first single of my poems put to professional music. I was overly impressed. The young Lady TS TUNES really did her thing by creating a sound that brings more life to my poetry. I must thank here publicly.. The following info is her site where you can here her work with my poem and others who trusted her keen sense. Enjoy the poems here are the links to every ones pages where you can take a listen. I am sure you will enjoy. I am looking forward to doing more. Well guys it has been a pleasure. The only thing left for the month of September is Harlem Book Fair, On Long Island. The book fair is being held the 27th. Please come by the website to get more info. I was requested to come there and sell books also. Come on out and support if your in the New York area. All this would not be possible without the grace of God, the almighty, the Love and support of my wife and of course the constant support of all of you. I don't in anyway take that lightly. Thank You for making me proud to be a writer you enjoy... God Bless K. L. Belvin.
